![]() WITCHES Witches can either be born or turned. The born are naturals at it, the turned take time to grasp the delicacies of spellweaving. To be turned one must have the trust of three other witches to conduct the spell, which includes chanting, blood of the turned and of the witches. They're not pagans, wiccans, it's not a religion or belief, just a breed. A make, if you will. Witches are killed by fire and ice, the extremes of the elements. They can drown and they suffocate, but to reeeally make sure they can't recover, fire and ice are the best forms. They don't need to say a chant or a rhyme every time they cast and they don't use wands. It's a command of the mind and a skill of the hands. If they really truly want something which requires big magic, ie: seeing the future, raising a demon, summoning a god, then there are set spells and chants they need to do so. Practical magic - as in battle, fixing a vase, conjuring etc. They can't use magic all the time, however - the one big weakness is energy. The greater and harder the magic, the more energy they use and if they go overboard it can take them days even weeks to recover. In some extremes, witches can die from exhaustion. Social Standing: Witches have levels - if you're a high level you're powerful, if you're a low level well - you're not. This doesn't go 1, 2, 3... it's just a matter of seeing where the balance lies. VAMPS The Vamps in Naissance are of the modern era - they use guns, like recent music whatever age or era they were turned. A few still resort to their own era of language, where speech was fruitful and quite varying in words. Despite legends and variations on Vampires, there are sone key things still in place here. They drink blood, they need blood to survive. Sunlight harms/kills them. Stakes kill 'em too Head being chopped off, holy water all horrid. No reflections and no heartbeat. Expert agility. Heightened senses. They can't reproduce but they can have sex. However there are some myths to be dispelled and some facts here different: They sleep in beds. No coffins, freezers, or underground lairs for them. They do actually breathe - though the heart is dead the lungs still move as they're a muscle, it's out of habit that they breathe. That doesn't mean you can kill them by strangling: it doesn't work. They do eat and drink - it's more for pleasure than to be satisfied, as without blood they'll starve. Despite popular opinion, vamps do bleed when injured but their skin is quite thick. They do go primal and more animalistic, but they do not go EVIL - once turned, they retain their human senses, mind, personality. Only over time do they change into the Vampire demon but it's mainly out of adapting to their new life. Social Standing: Vampires are basically a heirarchy - the Elders, who are now few, followed by the Overseers, followed by the Clan leaders, then to the run of the mill gathered vampires who make the clan... it's not as complex as it sounds. Some clans and districts choose to set themselves apart by naming their leaders after specific things: the CENTRE CLAN of this game, which is the Seattle clan, name most of their leaders after pieces on a chessboard. MUTAINTS Helped along by the Witches, Mutaints as they have been "fondly" nicknamed, are humans with special powers. They have one power each, unique to them. They have limits, strengths, and failings just like ordinary humans. For example there are occasionally two with supposedly the same power; where X might be able to shoot fire and score a direct hit while Y cannot, Y still might be able to burst into flames and spread fire, a skill which X does not have nor control. They are not immortal, unless that is their power, and die, wound and heal like ordinary humans. They contract illness, they can break, and feel emotion. They are not supernatural beings, just a sped up version of Evolution, which is why Witches and Vampires do not see them as equals, more as a threat they wouldn't piss on if they were on fire. Social Standing: High, middle, low. Same as humans. |
